About VET mod
Vanilla AvP2 experience, but without common bugs? VET mod delivers just that. During the making of this mod we aimed to correct things that made alien and predator melee weapons unreliable. There are also small, but noticeable changes to characters’ animations and models – no more missed headshots on crouching humans and preds or wiggling tails on aliens standing still. Out of all our mods VET stays the closest to vanilla.
VET (Vanilla Essential Tweaks) – overview
VET is a mod for AvP2 that focuses on fixing bugs (mostly animations, hit detection and ghosting melee weapons) in Single Player and Multiplayer while preserving the original weapon balance and if the weapons had to be modified – we did our best to keep their vanilla effectiveness. This mod is fully compatible with MSP 2.4.
Current version: VET 1.1 (released 18.05.2024)
What does the VET mod change?
Below you will find all changes (compared to vanilla, not previous versions) divided per species/gamemode they refer to. No info about something means it’s the same as in vanilla.
Multiple Species
- Damage modifier to hands and feet of Humans and Predators increased to -25% (from -50%)
(to ensure a consistent one hit kill with the Queen’s Tail or Railgun, surviving the hit is often confused with lags, ghost hits, hackers, bad hitboxes, whatever) - Modified idle animations – reduced movement while idle
(vanilla characters moved excessively when idle, making it hard to remain hidden while hiding or preparing an ambush) - Better durability for corpses
(this allows Aliens to regain full health from a corpse, so that we don’t need to have the alien regeneration on) - Camera adjustments
(for better aligment with the characters’ eye level) - Better overall hit detection in SP and MP, includes “crouch bug” fix
(headshots were nearly impossible when crouching and moving around as a Predator or human, also other hit detection fixes) - Simple kill, death, join, leave, etc. messages (for better clarity)
Aliens
- Headbite – no blinding flash
(headbite attack no longer causes the screen to turn red as if taking damage) - Claws of 4 standard Aliens – better accuracy, therefore – lowered damage, attack ranges for Predalien and Praetorian are now the same as those of the Runner and Drone
(in vanilla claw attacks were inaccurate and often ghosting and unreliable, unless you literally walked into the target first, this also makes it possible to regain full health by clawing the reworked corpses) - Tails of 4 standard Aliens – better accuracy to prevent ghosting, fixed confusing attack animation along with the sound
(the tail was sometimes ghosting, especially at it’s max range and when the target was small, like when trying to tail while being above someone’s head during a crouch jump. Also in vanilla the attack animation made it look like there is a delay before the tail hits, while it’s actually instant, attack sound had the same problem) - Queen claws – better accuracy, damage reduced by 25%
(Queen claws in vanilla are useless) - Aliens don’t wave their tails while standing still or crouching with the tail charged
(holding the tail at the ready caused the aliens to get into an endless animation loop of tail attacks, which was giving away the aliens’ position while waiting in ambush) - Workarounds to fix hit detection when changing stance during an attack
(in vanilla the characters can’t be hit properly if they do that, especially Predalien)

Humans
- Each human character has their own voice sets – taunt, pain, death
(vanilla used only 2 voice sets, one for males and one for females, added missing sounds for 6 other characters, each Predator and Alien already has their own sound set, not the case for humans in vanilla for whatever reason) - Renamed the classes in both teams to Assault, Heavy, Sniper & Support
(for better clarity in the character selection screen) - Both Support classes use the character model with ammo backpack
(the look of other classes in other teams reflects their abilities and weapons, let’s do the same for these powerful human classes) - Knife – better accuracy
(knife was ghosting a lot) - Pistol – 12 bullets from dropped gun instead of 14
(12 bullets in a pistol mag) - Pulse Rifle Grenades – direct damage 50>65
(to ensure that humans die with a direct hit to the legs) - Flamethrowers – carefully reworked, vanilla DPS
(flamethrowers are completely broken in vanilla, the attack animation has nothing to do with what really is happening) - Smartgun – real ammo count is shown
- SADAR – underwater explosion looks the same as on the ground
(because damage and range of the explosion is the same whether in water or not, so it now looks the same) - Minigun – real ammo count is shown
- Sniper Rifle – middle part of the scope is more transparent, added muzzle flash
(to discourage using scope mods, added muzzle flash because it was missing, there is firing dynamic light after all) - Removed first person view Dynamic Lights from weapons which don’t show your DL for other players

Predators
- Wristblades – consistent double swipe attack animation, no ghosting, but better aim needed
(in vanilla attack animations are random, each with different timing and often ghosting – completely missing something that you are directly aiming at with the crosshair) - Combistick – consistent double swipe attack animation, no ghosting, but better aim needed, primary damage lowered (360>300)
(in vanilla attack animations are random, each with different timing and often ghosting – completely missing something that you are directly aiming at with the crosshair) - Predator Pistol – adjusted the length of dynamic light for alt attack
(it stayed on for too long) - More taunts
(to refresh the gameplay experience)
